Rethink the human's place in the 'digital revolution'

"Many educators take the view that, using the metrics by which we judge traditional higher education (prestige, completion rates), MOOCs have failed to fulfill their original promise.
But those metrics don’t take into account how MOOCs are being used right now. Students can register, with no financial risk, for as many courses as they want. Some might want to sample a particular lecture, or prepare a business plan for investors, or take a lesson for a presentation the next day.
Call it “just-in-time education.” These students hadn’t planned to complete the course, and they have nothing to lose when they stop taking it. The MOOC provides learning in chunks, at a student’s own pace." (from NY Times article link above)

MEU TeL Workshop (revised workshop abstract for 2015 workshop)
Technology-Enhanced Learning (Introductory)
Course Description
Technology-Enhanced Learning has become an accepted educational tool and platform to support and augment teaching and learning in health professions education. Technology-enhanced learning in health professions education has demonstrated positive learning outcomes, promotes interaction between students/trainees and instructors, and positive assessment outcomes.
The introductory level workshop is designed as an introduction to the topic for beginners and might also be useful as a refresher course for more experienced practitioners.
The workshop will:
1. Introduce technology-enhanced learning models
2. Share a variety of reusable digital learning objects used in undergraduate and postgraduate
education, by demonstrating their use at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and National
University Health System, Singapore
3. Discuss best practices in technology-enhanced learning
Technology-Enhanced Learning (Intermediate)
Course Description

Dr Goh is a clinician educator who currently devotes 60% of his time to clinical practice and postgraduate training; and 40% of time to faculty development and educational research. This has been supplemented over the last four years by daily two to three hour early morning sessions focused on creating, curating and sharing (anonymised) case based educational teaching resources on a variety of digital and mobile learning platforms, from a digital repository currently containing over 10,000 digital teaching and learning objects. 25/22/14: years of experience as a clinical radiologist/educator/technology enhanced learning practitioner. He is currently in the 4th year as project lead of a pilot project (Learning@NUHS) to create a hyperlinked indexed case based teaching repository at NUHS. He joined the YLLSoM EduTech team in September, 2014 in an advisory and facilitatory role. Dr Goh designed and has been presenting Technology Enhanced Learning or eLearning workshops for Faculty development locally at the Medical Education Unit/Centre for Medical Education, YLL SoM over the past 6 years; and has contributed internationally as a resource person for an ongoing three year Singapore International Foundation/Sri Lankan Ministry of Health program in eLearning for Health Professions Educators in Sri Lanka, as well as more recently over the last year as a visiting professor at Kazakhstan National Medical University in technology enhanced learning, and as a keynote speaker and workshop presenter in eLearning at an International Conference in Medical Education in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He has presented consecutive papers on eLearning at the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) conference over the last 11 years, as well as several symposia on eLearning at AMEE; and has published papers on medical education in Medical Teacher. He is a current appointed member of the AMEE eLearning committee; and a member of the organising committee for the 2-day AMEE eLearning symposium immediately preceding the main AMEE conference in Glasgow, 2015.
